EU Warns Bosnia, Herzegovina Over Delayed Reforms

(MENAFN) According to reports, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has been cautioned by the European Union that continued delays in implementing key reforms could result in the loss of substantial financial support.

The EU Delegation in Sarajevo warned that the country may forfeit up to €373.9 million under the EU Growth Plan if it fails to accelerate progress on agreed reform commitments. The warning was issued amid concerns that long-standing reform efforts have stalled despite available assistance.

Luigi Soreca, who leads the EU Delegation to BiH and serves as the EU special representative, described the country as having “significant unfulfilled potential,” while noting that momentum on reforms has recently slowed.

He pointed to delays in several critical sectors, including digital transformation, judicial reform, and environmental transition policies. According to him, EU support is conditional and tied to performance benchmarks and strict timelines.

As he stated: "There is a cost to inaction,"emphasizing that funding is strictly results-based and dependent on meeting agreed deadlines.
